When someone buys a Ford Mustang, they’re participating in heritage while also driving the name into an exciting future. Whether as a 2-door Fastback coupe or cloth-top Convertible, the Mustang feels special, bringing a sense of occasion every time you jump in, even if you’re going to pick up the dry cleaning. There are rivals, specifically the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger. But the Mustang is among the best-selling sports coupes in the world.
One of the reasons for the rear-wheel-drive 2+2 passenger 2021 Ford Mustang’s popularity is the high level of choice in its lineup.
The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of the base, 2021 Mustang EcoBoost Fastback coupe, starts at $31,745 (all prices in Canadian dollars). The “EcoBoost” nomenclature refers to the base car’s 2.3-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that makes 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque (332-horsepower with the $6,500 Performance Package). A 6-speed manual transmission is standard; a 10-speed automatic is optional.
The base 2021 Mustang EcoBoost Convertible adds $5,000 to the price of the coupe.
With its 460-horsepower and 420-pound-feet of torque, 5.0-litre 8-cylinder, pricing starts at $41,475 for the Mustang GT Fastback and $54,490 for the GT Premium Convertible.
2021 brings the latest in a long string of special Mustangs: the $65,500 Mach 1. Available only in Fastback hardtop form (no convertible version is offered), the Mach 1 uses the same 480-horsepower and 420-pound-feet of torque 5.0-litre V8 as last year’s Bullitt trim. The Mach 1 is more track-focused than the Bullitt, though, with extra engine cooling, specific aerodynamic additions, an active exhaust system, Brembo brakes, Torsen limited-slip differential and Ford’s MagneRide adaptive suspension.
Regardless of trim level, any new 2021 Ford Mustang can be ordered with many options. Such as ventilated front seats, Bang & Olufsen 12-speaker/1,000-watt audio, 10-speed automatic transmission, leather-covered Recaro sport seats, sport exhaust system, bigger wheels, performance/handling packages, and MagneRide adaptive dampers.
