Fresh off a recent redesign, the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 light-duty full-size pickup truck is a capable and alluring choice. Though it has similar underpinnings and powertrain choices as its General Motors' Chevrolet Silverado 1500 sibling, the Sierra 1500 touts more premium flair and design differences.

The 2021 Sierra 1500 offers a wide variety of engines, ranging from a 285-horsepower 4.3-litre 6-cylinder to a 6.2-litre V8 with 420 horsepower. In between, you’ll find a 2.7-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder with 310 horsepower, GM’s tried-and-true 355- horsepower 5.3-litre V8 and an economical 3.0-litre turbodiesel 6-cylinder that makes a robust 460 pound-feet of torque. All 2021 GMC Sierra 1500s use an automatic transmission with either 6-, 8-, or 10-speeds, depending on engine and trim. Some of the engines also use a start/stop system that cuts engine power at idle to save fuel.

The GMC pickup truck also offers a broad selection of cab configurations and bed lengths. Trims range from a basic work truck to the luxuriously outfitted Denali trim. Sierra AT4 models are even more adventurous with a factory lift-kit and standard 4-wheel drive. The GMC Sierra 1500 should please consumers with its enhanced safety and trailering technology and features like its innovative MultiPro tailgate.

Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Prices (MSRPs) for GMC’s full-size pickup start at $32,898 CDN for the base Sierra 1500 trim. Next up is the $46,598 CDN SLE, followed by the $49,898 CDN Elevation and the $55,998 CDN SLT. The off-road-oriented ATF trim starts at $63,498 CDN, and pricing for the topline Denali trim begins at $69,698 CDN.

The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500’s competition is the usual domestic brand suspects, starting with its Silverado sibling, the Ram 1500, the segment’s best-selling Ford F150, plus the Japanese Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan trucks.
