Which 2021 Hyundai Elantra is Right for You?

Find out which version of Hyundai’s all-new compact sedan fits your needs.

The all-new, 7th-generation 2021 Hyundai Elantra 4-door sedan is a bit longer, lower, and wider than the outgoing model. Its coupé-like styling is a little better proportionally than its larger Sonata sedan sibling. Although the front-wheel-drive Elantra is no longer available as a hatchback, the 2021 5-passenger compact sedan can be had in three flavours: high-value, hyper-fuel-efficient, and über-fun.

With a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price starting at $17,889 (all prices in Canadian dollars), the base Elantra Essential trim is one of Canada's most affordable new vehicles. The base Hyundai uses a 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque 2.0-litre gas engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The optional continuously variable automatic transmission is a $1,900 extra.

The hyper-fuel-efficient Elantra Hybrid starts at $24,699. Equipped with a dual-clutch 6-speed automatic transmission, the Hybrid's 139-horsepower and 195-pound-feet of torque 1.6-litre gas engine and electric motor combination score an impressive 4.7 litres per 100 kilometres combined city and highway fuel economy estimate.

If you are looking for a compact sedan with sports sedan handling and performance, there’s the new $27,599 Elantra N-Line. Like the Elantra Hybrid, the Elantra N-Line has a multilink rear suspension but with sportier tuning. It is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-litre 4-cylinder engine with a generous 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic with paddle shifters mounted behind the steering wheel is the lone gearbox.

Whether you choose the high-value base model, hyper-fuel-efficient hybrid or über-fun N-Line Elantra, Hyundai includes a generous amount of standard equipment, plus plenty of options. Standard features include heated front seats, 8-inch touch-screen display, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and alloy wheels. Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, along with a lane-keeping assist, lane-follow assist, active high-beam headlights, and, a driver attention monitor.
Additionally, you can order a voice-recognition system and a 10.25-inch navigation screen with a faster processor on higher trim levels. Optional safety features include a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic assist (with automatic braking), plus Highway Driving Assist and a Safe Exit Warning.
