There once was a time when driving an all-wheel-drive SUV meant suffering from poor fuel economy. Today, however, ever-tightening emissions standards worldwide and demand for less-polluting vehicles means SUV buyers have plenty of fuel-efficient utility vehicles to choose from. Some models do not burn any fossil fuels at all.
To help buyers compare SUVs that use electricity, Natural Resources Canada employs a conversion factor to change electrical energy consumption values, expressed in kilowatt-hours per 100 kilometres (kWh/100 km), into gasoline litres equivalent per 100 kilometres (Le/100 km).
